Curt Fowler
Head Coach, Tippah County Tribe

Curt Fowler currently serves as the head baseball coach of the Blue Mountain College Toppers.  They begin their first season of NAIA TransSouth baseball in 2011.

Coach Fowler graduated from Blue Mountain High School in 1989. He attended NEMCC where he played baseball and graduated with a BA in History from the University of Mississippi in 2000. Before his coaching career began, he was publisher and editor for the The Professional Kennel Club magazine and Sports Editor for the Southern Sentinel newspaper in Ripley. He was head baseball coach at Potts Camp High School before coming to New Albany High School High School in 2001. His coaching honors include Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal Coach of the Year and District 1-3A coach of the year. Coach Fowler has coached in the NEMCABB All-Star Game, the State Games, and the Crossroads Diamond All Star Game.

Since 2002, Coach Fowler has led the Diamond Bulldogs to county championships, division championships, north-half playoffs, and state playoffs. His New Albany Bulldog team finished the 2008 baseball season ranked 3rd in the Daily Journal poll and 15th in the Clarion Ledger poll. Sixteen players from Fowler's teams have gone on to play baseball at the college level.

Coach Fowler is married to the former Fancy Bennett who teaches 4th grade at Ripley Elementary. They have one son Matthew Case. The Fowlers attend Ripley Primitive Baptist Church. Coach Fowler teaches social studies at NASTUC.  


Joel Gafford
Assistant Coach, Tippah County Tribe

Joel Gafford, a 2003 graduate of New Albany High School, was a four-year prep letterman in baseball.  After high school, Gafford played two years at Northeast Mississippi Community College where he was named All-State and All-Region his sophomore season.  Gafford continued his playing career at SWAC powerhouse Mississippi Valley State where he performed as an outfielder and pitcher.

Coach Gafford earned his bachelors degree in history from Mississippi Valley. Thereafter he returned to his native New Albany High School for his first coaching stint, where he served as the assistant to the North Delta Dealer’s John Walker. This will be his second season coaching in the Cotton States, working this season with his former high school coach, Curt Fowler. Coach Gafford and his wife Lauren live in New Albany and have a daughter, Madilyn Olivia.
